Can’t-Wait Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted at Wishful Endings, to spotlight and discuss the books we’re excited about that we have yet to read. Generally they’re books that have yet to be released. Find out more here.
Ace of Shades
by Amanda Foody
Welcome to the City of Sin, where casino families reign, gangs infest the streets…and secrets hide in every shadow.
Enne Salta was raised as a proper young lady, and no lady would willingly visit New Reynes, the so-called City of Sin. But when her mother goes missing, Enne must leave her finishing school—and her reputation—behind to follow her mother’s trail to the city where no one survives uncorrupted.
Frightened and alone, her only lead is a name: Levi Glaisyer. Unfortunately, Levi is not the gentleman she expected—he’s a street lord and a con man. Levi is also only one payment away from cleaning up a rapidly unraveling investment scam, so he doesn’t have time to investigate a woman leading a dangerous double life. Enne’s offer of compensation, however, could be the solution to all his problems.
Their search for clues leads them through glamorous casinos, illicit cabarets and into the clutches of a ruthless mafia donna. As Enne unearths an impossible secret about her past, Levi’s enemies catch up to them, ensnaring him in a vicious execution game where the players always lose. To save him, Enne will need to surrender herself to the city…
And she’ll need to play.
I finished reading Daughter of the Burning City, Amanda Foody’s debut novel, last week. I love her writing style, her characters, and her world. While I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to get another story in Gomorrah, I think I’ll take just about anything.
We have a lovely DARK plot for the book, and we know that our main character’s name is Enne Salta. She is proper and fancy and definitely NOT Sorina from DotBC. That’s alright, though. I’m still intrigued. There are clues, and the setting sounds like it’s going to be a dark, underground version of Vegas/New Orleans/James Bond story. I am all in on this one, kiddos, and I am impatiently waiting a lovely cover… or even a temp cover….
This book isn’t released until April 2018, so I’ve got a bit of waiting to do….
THE GOOD NEWS is that this one is part of a planned series and it means when I inevitably fall in love with Enne and Levi, I WILL GET MORE!!!! YESSSSSS.
